ASHR's East Coast Leather is a tough, matte black cowhide. Like a New Yorker, this leather starts off smooth, stiff and ready to take on anything, but it reveals incredible depth as it breaks in. After just a few weeks, the under color starts to shine through, creating a natural distressed look. As it matures, the East Coast Leather becomes more flexible, with an increasingly layered grain.

ASHR's West Coast Leather is a semi-gloss, black sheepskin. From day one, this leather has a buttery smooth touch. Its subtle sheen and lightweight construction make it the perfect companion for a warm night out in LA; but its beauty is much more than skin deep. This lightweight leather has more structure than conventional sheepskins and lambskins better suited for blazers and skirts, striking the perfect balance between durability and flexibility.

Vegetable-tanned with No Chemicals.

For thousands of years, leather was tanned with vegetable tannins that come from trees, in a process that took months called vegetable-tanning. In fact, the word "tannin" derives from the Old German word "fir" (tree). Today, however, 90% of leather on the market is tanned with chrome chemicals instead of natural elements, in an effort to make the tanning process cheaper and faster. The leftover deposits from these chemicals are harmful to the environment and artificially break in the leather. ASHR believes great leather shouldn't destroy the environment. ASHR believes great leather should be broken through wear— not by chemical processes. That's why ASHR leathers are vegetable-tanned only.

Caring for your leather.

ASHR's leather is treated for protection from the elements at the tannery level. If your jacket gets wet in the rain, let it dry at room temperature. If your jacket is dirty, wipe it clean with a damp cloth. Do not use any conditioners, soaps, etc. Remember, part of the beauty of leather is the wear and tear that adds to its treasured patina and gives your jacket that lived-in look.

Uniquely yours.

No cut of leather is the same. ASHR's tanneries pick the most premium cuts, but inevitably, even after matching and masking skin differences, there will be variations in the way each jacket looks. Embrace these unique characteristics and be proud that yours is one-of-a-kind. With wear, the leather will form to you and become uniquely yours.
